The Appentice

The Appentice was the inspirational concept of Miss Williams, an avid fan of Alan Sugar and ‘The Apprentice’. It combined the ruthless business skills needed to promote and market a new novel with the creative skills necessary for story telling. The result was an action-packed day of tasks with ‘The Sugar Babes’ (6th form Performing Arts students) and Sir Tim Sugar (aka Mr Manson) breathing down year nine students’ necks, harassing them in an attempt to encourage them to work more effectively. The day began with groups discussing ideas for their story and at break time they were given mysterious envelopes containing instructions for various roles. Initially the year 10 students tried to ask Miss Hutchinson, Mrs Anderson and Miss Williams for help but they soon realised that the day was about them using their initiative and thinking independently. Surprisingly the need for questioning disappeared as the groups took ownership of their duties. Every group had an Editor, Writer, Illustrator and Marketeer. The challenge was to ensure that their ideas impressed the Sugar Babes, Nicholas and Margret, enough to allow them to proceed to the next stage, a presentation in front of the rest of the groups. The day was a roaring success with Mr Manson assuming his alter-ego with ease and the stories indicating some exciting if not weird imaginations in our year 10 students. Thanks to all who were involved in making the day a huge success from our chauffeur, to our Apprentice team, to the staff involved, building supervisors and the technical support team. Huge thanks also to the year tens whose creativity can now be found on the library shelves for all who are brave enough to read them!
